Farewell to the FL9

For about 50 years, the New Haven Railroad, and then Metro-North, have run these EMD Art Deco-insipired locomotives. Metro North FL9 2027, West Redding, CT Metro North FL9 #2027, West Redding, CT 10/23/2005 Unique in their ability to run on diesel power or 3rd rail electric, they are handsome and utilitarian.

On October 23, Metro-North officially retired the FL9 from passenger service with a special excursion from Stamford to Canaan, CT. My Farewell to the FL9 page has photos that I took that day, as well as links to other FL9 postings.

Pop's Camelback drawing

My Grandfather, known to everyone in the family as "Pop", made this drawing in 1912 while employed by the Reading Railroad.

Naugatuck

In June, 2003, Trainwe took a ride on the Naugatuck Raiload's tourist train, pulled by U23B #2203. The ride runs along the Naugatuck river, between Thomaston and Waterbury, CT. Near the end of the ride, you travel out across the breast of the Thomaston dam, which was built for flood control purposes.     More...

Merry Christmas!

We have had trains under the Christmas tree for many years. Trains and Christmas treeDecember 25, 2004This year, we had a small expansion of the train layout to accomodate a loop for a trolley, and a short track for a gang car to run back and forth on.
